About the Club

Wherry Archers are a family friendly club that cater for all forms of target archery within the guidelines of Archery GB including Recurve bow, Barebow, Compound bow, and Longbow.
Currently outdoors we shoot at Filby on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays 1pm until dusk.
The club's grounds are situated at the Filby Village Playing Field on Main Road, Filby,
NR29 3HN
During the winter we shoot at Fleggburgh village hall, NR29 3AG on Sundays 1pm till 4pm.
We have several members who shoot in competitions, although you do not have to shoot these if you wish to stay a recreational archer only. The club also has an annual award for the most improved archer based on handicaps. In addition to handicaps archers can also gain 3rd, 2nd and 1st class Bowman, Bowman, Master Bowman and Grand Master Bowman awards either on the club grounds or at competition .
Courses with all equipment supplied and insurance through Archery GB are run over a period of 4 weeks and are run as a group or 1 to 1 depending on numbers. Booking essential.!
More information on trying archery, courses or membership fees can be obtained from the club chairman, email - wherrychairman92@gmail.com or secretary, email - secretary@wherryarchers.co.uk
Want to become a member
Becoming a member allows access to the equipment sheds via coded padlocks so no keys are required so you can shoot at any time during the periods set out above. Membership fees are renewable in September. Members who join earlier or later in the year are given a pro rata reduction in fees.
Part of the membership fee is for your Archery GB membership which you require for insurance and to be able to shoot at competition level. We have a whatsapp group so all members can keep up to date with club activities and seek advice on all things archery.
Once you decide to buy your own equipment we can guide you through the buying process and will help to set up your new equipment. It is nice to know that we have Clickers Archery a leading specialist archery shop close to us in Norwich. We would expect that if you were serious about taking up the sport that you would purchase your own equipment within a few months so we have set a maximum loan period of club equipment to 3 months.
History
The Wherry Archers was formed in 1992 to cater for the void caused by the
demise of the Yarmouth Archery Club. Initially we were based at Caister
Community Centre for indoor and outdoor activities. In 1997 we were asked to
vacate Caister Community Centre as the building was to be demolished and so we
moved our outdoor shooting to Filby village playing field. Our indoor venue was
moved to Hopton Village hall, we remained there until early 2009 as the village
hall was being rebuilt over the winter of 2009/2010, during this time we moved
our shooting to Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton.
In 2022 we moved our indoor shooting venue to Fleggburgh village hall.
